Veterinary Support Services in Canberra
Pets in the Park runs a monthly walk-in clinic at the Early Morning Centre at 69 Northbourne Ave in the City on the 1st Sunday of the month from 2-4pm. This free clinic is available for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Vaccines, health checks, parasite control and basic medical treatment is offered free of charge. Desexing and some surgeries are also available at their surgery clinics once every quarter. Clients will need a referral letter from their service provider to qualify for Pets in the Park (they can contact OneLink if they don’t have a service provider) or if they regularly attend the Early Morning Centre a referral letter can be obtained on the day. ACT Pet Crisis Support helps with unexpected vet bills for disadvantaged pet owners. Their aim is to avoid suffering, euthanasia or surrender of beloved family pets for economic reasons. Applications to the fund can be made online by the treating vet clinic, click here. Pet owners who are unable to afford dentistry at their regular GP clinic can also apply on the ACT Pet Crisis Support website to have their pet’s dentistry performed at the RSPCA ACT. Please check the ACT Pet Crisis Support website for more details. Any vet in Canberra (and Queanbeyan) can access the fund for a pet owner who has no other options to pay for an unexpected vet bill.
VetPay is a convenient way to pay off unexpected vet bills. It can be used at any vet clinic for 3 months interest free finance. Pet owners can apply online here for pre-approval that is valid for 90 days and they are not charged unless they use it. Vet clinics can also apply online for clients if they have appropriate identification.
