Canberra Pet Rescue is a registered not-for-profit charity with foster carers across Canberra and Queanbeyan. We take in pets in desperate need who have been abandoned, neglected or surrendered.
We aim to ensure that no matter how they come into this world, every animal we save is given the chance to find a happy and loving forever home. We always act in the animal’s best interest as our primary guiding principle in everything we do.
We have been rescuing pets in need in the Canberra region for over ten years and have a wealth of experience and knowledge in our group and great relationships and support within our community.
Due to the Canberra Cat Crisis we are constantly inundated with cats in care, but also take in and rehome dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, mice and other pets.
We do NOT support the unnecessary killing of stray cats on the streets due to “behavioural reasons” and instead take a humane and effective approach to these situations. This entails adopting a model where we work with community members to vet work (including desexing) the cat to end the breeding cycle and have the cat remain in it’s outdoor home being fed and cared for over the course of its life, or live in on a rural property under the same conditions. This creates a balance with our wildlife and community for everyone to live in harmony. This is a more effective and humane approach to managing stray cats who are not suited to indoor homes. All kittens and semi-socialised cats we take in, rehabilitate, vet work and find loving homes for.
Volunteers Governance We take our legal and ethical responsibilities very seriously and ensure the best possible outcome for the animals in our care, our volunteers and our broader community. We are registered as a Deductible Gift Recipient so donations $2 and over are tax deductible.
